Viking Axe Master Class
4 October 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 6 October 2019 @ 5:00 pm MST
$795Viking axes were everyday Norse tools noted for their light weight, good balance and speed of deployment. Students will use the asymmetrical wrap method to forge and grind an iconic Viking axe that features the langets, or ears, that characterize the form. This process provides a high level of construction control and allows the maker to work on the axe eye as a single piece and then work the blade from the finished eye. Some forging and grinding experience is recommended as students will be dealing with layout, forging or grinding to layout lines, as well as forge welding.
Instructor: Tom Ward, Fulbright research scholar, ABS journeyman bladesmith, and blacksmithing master’s student at SIU Carbondale
Friday: 5-9 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (lunch noon-1 p.m.)
For lunch, we recommend our neighbors, American Eat Co.
